Supportive Counseling

Looking to have another perspective on what you feel is contributing to your distress or compromising your health and wellbeing? Have you gone through several providers and still feel unheard? Maybe the ‘big picture’ is still not clear?

Let NORTH SHORE OSTEOPATHIC introduce you to a new approach to those struggling with psychic pain or distress, somatic presentations and conditions borne through trauma and grief.

Think about it….what really makes up a person and their being? Everything really is interconnected and interrelated - Osteopathic and Oriental Medicine is based on it.

Over time, scientists divided up the body into systems, naming parts and classifying structures - muscle by muscle, nerve by nerve, system by system. As scientists and clinicians became more specialized and precise, something was lost. The big picture - how our organs and body systems are still very much related to each other.

Your brain (and dare we say your ‘soul’) has made impressions and memories of what it has experienced over its lifetime. These are real sensations and rooted in what was perceived to be true at one time in the past. Is this reality still true? Is the brain still interpreting an experience the same today? Remember, the brain is just a collection of chemical memories and provides responses and collective reactions to prior experiences. How do you describe your experiences without describing your sensations? Every structure is affected by how you’ve used them over the years, how you currently move through life, AND how you feel about your journey.

Most don’t remember, but when one first learns to walk, s/he does so after several failed attempts and falls. Eventually we learn to control our falling (or avoid failing) - which means that our joints and legs finally learn how to respond to our shifting center of gravity via compensatory muscle contractions and relaxations.

The fear of falling (and failing) develops because we learned somewhere along the way that without controls in place, falling/failing hurts us both psychologically and physically. From there one may develop compulsions or simply live by avoiding the stressors or situations.

Think about this!? Rest and nutrition are physiologically required so as to allow our neuroimmune system to optimize, manage our internal resources and metabolic pathways in an efficient way. Rest (via sleep) also allows us to integrate the results or outcomes of our day’s activities into memories. Without adequate resources such as rest and nutrition, the body’s neurological and immune systems become dysfunctional - or at the very least less than optimized.

Without adequate mental and physical support of the body and mind there is no foundation upon which to build a healthy and well-balanced lifetime.

Another way of thinking about it - without a margin of resources, there is no mission one can successfully undertake.

NORTH SHORE OSTEOPATHIC and its Specialists are here to help you recognize how your brain is trying to fulfill its role in survival as a Unique Being - AND how physical and psychological presentations are one way that the brain and/or body are trying to gain control back and optimize how you function.

We can help your body learn to walk again and reconstitute itself after a journey that you’ve already started. Maybe we can help you prepare better for a new journey ahead?

Whether joining one of us for individualized appointments, collaborating with several of us, or joining our All-Inclusive Team-Based Model of Care, please believe that we will do our best to mindfully help you assess and manage whatever concerns you present to us.

Know that each of us are here to offer help and are willing to integrate our skillsets to help you explore and re-establish the link between the nervous system and the body it controls - the two of which have always been connected.
